Imitation of Life (1959, Douglas Sirk)

Based on Fannie Hursts 1933 novel, there was a 1934 film version directed by Stahl M Stahl. This was Douglas Sirk’s last American film and I think its important to watch and discuss even if it has its weaknesses (Sandra Dee especially). Susan Kohner as the black daughter pretending to be white is outstanding and the devastating, heart-rending emotional core of the film.
